Against the Spread: Picking the Top Matchups in NFL’s Week 6

Five weeks have gone by in the NFL season and many surprises have occurred. First off, the Buffalo Bills have a better record than the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons. Secondly, Cincinnati looks like an AFC contender, and the Chicago Bears look primed to take the NFC North. With that being said, let’s take a look at how you should make your Week 6 bets.

Key Match-Ups

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals (-2): One thing to take note in this rivalry game is the battle between Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict and Steelers’ WR Juju Smith-Schuster. If you remember, Smith-Schuster laid out and taunted Burfict in last year’s contest. Both teams have been feeling good about themselves after playing well last week, but I’m choosing Pittsburgh to win out apply pressure to Cincinnati’s AFC North lead. Steelers win 24-20.

Jacksonville Jaguars (-3) vs. Dallas Cowboys: A big matchup in Jerry World this week, as two teams look to bounce back following tough Week 5 defeats. For Dallas, they enter with severe offensive troubles, scoring 20+ points in one of their last three outings. And for it Jacksonville, it’s about patching up a stingy defense that allowed 23 points and 424 yards to the Chiefs last week. With that said, defense travels, look for the Jaguars to do just enough in this one, in spite of Blake Bortles’ latest shortcomings. Jaguars win 13-7.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots (-3.5): While the NFL season is still young, there’s a great chance that the outcome of this matchup determines home-field in the AFC. The surging Chiefs are one of just two remaining unbeaten teams left in the NFL. They’re led by a high-powered offense with a set of skilled players and an upstart quarterback that’s nearly impossible to gameplan for. On the other side, it’s the Patriots who look to get back to controlling the AFC like usual with 41-year-old Tom Brady. A win for Kansas City goes a long way in asserting themselves as the NFL’s best team. Give me the Chiefs because they have more weapons than the Patriots. Chiefs win 42-38.

Game to Avoid

Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) vs. Tennessee Titans: Both Baltimore and Tennessee share similar playing styles: anemic offense carried by a stout defense. The Ravens’ Joe Flacco has outperformed the Titans’ Marcus Mariota so far this season, which looks to the clear deciding factor in this one. Other than that, there are too many questions to bet on this game safely.

Lock of the Week

San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers (-9.5): San Francisco has fallen apart ever since QB Jimmy Garapollo tore his ACL Week 3 – dropping to 1-4 on the season. Unfortunately for them, they head into a challenging environment in Lambeau Field to face an unbeaten Packers team at home. This looks like an easy win for Green Bay.
