Super Bowl 52
In the wide world of not only Madden, but football as a whole, we have ourselves a Super Bowl 51 rematch: a game that has no chance of living up to the same hype that happened just a year before; or does it?
First Quarter Action
The Patriots would strike first just three minutes into the game, accounting for the 1st quarter’s only score. Tom Brady finds Rob Gronkowksi wide open in the end-zone for a 13-yard TD.
Second Quarter Action
After a few failed drives by both teams, the Patriots strike again with 2:24 remaining in the second quarter. Again, Gronkowski is the beneficiary of well-thrown TD pass for eight yards from Brady.
Third Quarter Action
Both teams involve in multiple failed drives, failing to live up to the hype of a moderately high-scoring Super Bowl. But then Falcons’ kicker Matt Bryant tacks on the team’s first points of the game with a 54-yard field goal.
Also, just one play after a sack on Brady, and with no time left in the quarter, the Falcons get potentially the turning point they need: a Brady interception.
Fourth Quarter Action
The Falcons weren’t able to do anything with the interception as the fourth quarter showcased more back and forth drives resulting in no scores. However, on 4th & 5, Julio Jones potentially saves Atlanta’s season with a nice spin-move for the first down, resulting in another field goal on the drive.
Afterwards, another set of drive by both teams that results to nothing, including a huge stop by the Falcons.
Following their mammoth stop, Atlanta storms down the field with ease. They haven’t been able to do this all game, and now with 0:16 on the clock, they look in position to finally score a touchdown.
Incredible! The Falcons finally score in the dying seconds on a Tyler Gabriel touchdown reception and they now need a two-point conversion to send the Super Bowl into overtime for a consecutive year.
Oh no!!! A penalty on the Falcons during their two-point conversion attempt has them starting at the seven-yard line. In one of the biggest bonehead plays in Super Bowl history (next to the Russell Wilson pass play at the goal line in SB 49) the Falcons call for a QB draw….
The result is a horribly executed play. Super Bowl 52, as well as the Madden 18 season ends with Chris Hogan recovering an Atlanta onside kick attempt, sealing the Patriots’ sixth Lombardi trophy.
Other Simulated Super Bowl Notes:
- Tom Brady throws for 276 yards, 2 TDs
- Matt Ryan throws with 281 yards, 1 TD
- Dion Lewis and Devonta Freeman rush for just 64 and 42 yards, respectively
- Rob Gronkowski catches 2 TDs on 41 receiving yards
This installment of the NFL season simulation was miles better than last year’s Chargers/Eagles matchup, but let’s all hope we see some new teams in actual Super Bowl 52.
